Liverpool is the only Premier League team left in the league that has a 100% win record in all competitions this season (excluding their Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace) and it has been by no means can easy feat. Liverpool fans can a test to how their club have made every game feel like it is never over until the final whistle by leaving their match winning goals for around the 80th/90th minute of games. As of 18 September 2025, Liverpool have gone 5 games unbeaten in the Premier League and Champions League and the late drama games do not look like stopping anytime soon.

Opening Day against AFC Bournemouth

Liverpool kicked off the opening game of the 2025/26 campaign by hosting AFC Bournemouth at Anfield. The game looked like an interesting battle until new signing Hugo Ekitike opened his account for Liverpool and giving them a 1-0 going into Halftime. Within the first 5 minutes of the second half, Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool their 2nd goal and making Liverpool’s victory look all the more certain however Bournemouth’s talisman forward Antoine Semenyo had something to say in the matter as he levelled the game by scoring 2 goals in 12 minutes. The Reds looked to have thrown the 3 points away by allowing Bournemouth to get back into the game. The stage called for a hero and in came an unexpected one in the form of Federico Chiesa who came off the bench in the 82nd minute and just needed 6 minutes to make himself a hero as the Italian scored Liverpool’s 3rd and put them back in the lead. Mohamed Salah put the icing on the cake by scoring Liverpool’s 4th in the 94th minute and continuing his record of scoring on Opening Day Fixtures.

Dream Debut for Academy Graduate Away at Newcastle

Liverpool went to away to Saint James’ Park to take on a Newcastle United in drama filled game with all the behind the scenes issues between Alexander Isak and Newcastle which drew extra interest going into the game since Isak’s desire at the time was to join Liverpool. Similarly to the Bournemouth game, Liverpool took a 1-0 lead going into Half-Time courtesy of an outside the box low driven effort by Ryan Gravenberch as well as there was also the issuing of a red card to Anthony Gordon after VAR deemed his challenge on Virgil Van Djik a dangerous one. Hugo Ekitike continued his goal scoring form within a minute of going into the 2nd half by scoring Liverpool’s 2nd goal and once again the game looked set and done for the Reds. Newcastle did not give up however as captain Bruno Guimaraes’ headed in Newcastle’s first goal of the season which kick started Newcastle comeback. Once again, similarly to the Bournemouth game there were unexpected heroics again whoever this time it was not by a Liverpool player. This time it was striker William Osula who had recently come off the bench for Newcastle and scored the equaliser in the 88th minute. Once again It looked as though Liverpool had thrown away all 3 points and set to leave St James’ Park with a point until young 16-year-old academy graduate Rio Ngumoha came off the bench in the 90th minute and went to score the winner in stoppage time and secure all 3 points for the Reds.

Top of the Table clash with Arsenal

This game was already the biggest game of the season so far because this game was clash between the 2 unbeaten clubs in the league and the 2 clubs that have shown early signs of being title contenders. The game itself was basically a chess match with teams trying their best not to lose the game by making any costly mistakes. It looked set to end in a bore draw if not for the brilliance of Liverpool’s Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been utilised as a right back since the Newcastle game due to injuries to Liverpool’s fullback options. The Reds were gifted a free kick approximately 30 yards away from goal in the 81th minute of the game and the Hungarian took it upon himself to take the opportunity and a score a goal of the season contender free kick that sealed the win for Liverpool and once again securing all 3 points late in the game.

Leaving Extremely Late Away at Burnley

Liverpool went away to Turf Moor to face newly promoted Burnley who have had a mixed start to live back in the Premier League. 2 wins in their last 4 games in all competitions (including EFL Cup) and they were set to face the unbeaten champions of England. Give credit to Scott Parker and his Burnley team because they were the underdogs and yet for the majority of the game they looked the like the favourites to win the game or at the very least gain a point out of the game. New Burnley signing and former Chelsea man Lesley Ugochukwu unfortunately got himself awarded a 2nd yellow in the 84th minute for a late challenge on Florian Wirtz which left Burnley with 10 men for the rest of the game. The boys in Claret and Blue looked like they going to grind out a draw against the Champions if not for the accidental handball by former Manchester United player, Hannibal Mejbri, which gifted Liverpool a penalty late into stoppage time which Mo Salah confidently put away.

Classic Champions League Match at Anfield

Liverpool kicked off their Champions League campaign by hosting Atletico Madrid at home and the game started in the best way possible for the English champions. Within the first 6 minutes Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool and the game seemingly looked like it was going to be smooth sailing for the Merseyside Reds however if Liverpool’s recent history means has taught us anything, it is that their games are never as easy as they seem. Right before halftime Atletico Madrid’s Right Back Marcos Llorente scored a late goal leaving the game at 2-1 before Halftime. The very same Spanish Right Back Llorente would later go on to score the equaliser from a class volley just outside the box in the 81th minute. Once again, this game was looking for some of that Liverpool late magic and they got it in the form of their captain Virgil Van Djik who scored the winner goal from a corner in the 92th minute in stoppage time.
