As of September 1, 2025 at around 7pm BST the European Transfer Window closed meaning from Europe’s top leagues like the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and many other leagues as well.
Be that as it may, there are still other leagues whose transfer windows still have not closed yet and that has the potential for more transfers to still take place in the month of September. Even though other leagues have their transfer windows closed, they are very much able to sell players to the leagues that are still looking to bolster up their teams which means we could still be likely to see some big names who could not find exits from their clubs still have hope of finding solutions.
Transfer Windows Still Open (League – Deadline)
- Saudi Pro League – September 10
- Premier League (Russia) – September 10
- Super League (Greece) – September 11
- Süper Lig (Turkey) – September 12
- Primeira Liga (Portugal) – September 15
These are not the only leagues with their transfer windows still open however these are the more top leagues that could attract certain players looking to still make a move this year.
Such as most recently İlkay Gündoğan has been confirmed to have completed his move Manchester City to Galatasaray and will be playing in the Turkish league this season.
As mentioned previously, there are other leagues with their transfer windows still open such as the Qatar Stars league which has recently been reported to have confirmed that Al-Rayyan SC have signed Aleksandar Mitrović from Saudi side Al Hilal and other leagues like the Romanian league Liga 1 have confirmed the signing of Kurt Zouma to CPR Cluj.
Premier League Players Still in Limbo
There are a few clubs, especially in the Premier League, who still have players who are either surplus to requirement or the players themselves are seeking a new challenge.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa did not have a very productive summer to say the least in terms of recruitment however they were very busy in market in terms of letting go of a quite a few notable names from their squad such Jacob Ramsey, Leander Dendoncker, Leon Bailey and Álex Moreno just to name a few.
The list is still likely to have another addition as goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could still have his options open to a potential exit from Aston Villa should the player still be keen.
It was no secret that Emi Martinez was looking to stay in the Premier League and join Manchester United, however unfortunately for the Argentine the Red Devils opted to sign a much younger long-term goalkeeper in Senne Lammens.
Aston Villa has confirmed to still be happy to keep the goalkeeper at Villa Park as well as Martinez has confirmed to be uninterested in joining the Turkish league amidst the rumoured interest from Galatasaray.
This however does not mean that Martinez could not possibly be swayed to join other available leagues if the Argentinian feels his time at Aston Villa is up.
Chelsea
Where do you even begin with Chelsea, they are club with one of the most stacked list of players known in possibly the world and they never look like stopping with all the business they have completed this summer.
Chelsea were very business in the transfer window selling and loaning out players, and yet it was still not enough as they still have a few players in the squad who have seemingly lost their place in the team and no longer have a future at the club as well as some still do not even have a registered kit number.
Axel Disasi, who spent the later stages of the 2024/25 season on loan to Aston Villa, can still be expected to leave and potentially join a club outside Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Other players like David Datro Fofana and Raheem Sterling, who as mentioned previously do not even have registered kit numbers, could also be evaluating their options as they seem to have absolutely no future at Chelsea.
Manchester City
Manchester City have been quite busy with their rebuild this summer by letting a lot of household names leave the club this past window such as Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, Manuel Akanji, Ederson and previously mentioned İlkay Gündoğan.
With a lot of new additions arriving at the club, it may push one of City’s reliable backup players to seek game time elsewhere as Stefan Ortega has fallen down the pecking order at Man City following the arrivals of new goalkeepers James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 32-year-old German goalkeeper has been a very reliable backup goalkeeper for Man City for the past 3 years but it seems the club has looked to reinforce their goalkeeping department with much younger options and Ortega might have to start evaluating his options these next few weeks or else the goalkeeper may have to be content with being the 3rd choice option at the club.
Manchester United
The red side of Manchester had a few struggles with sales this summer and had to wait near deadline day to finally start offloading some players.
Players from Man Utd’s “bomb squad” have all made moves to clubs apart one, Tyrell Malacia.
Malacia spent the 2nd half of last season on loan at PSV with a €10m Buy Option Clause in which PSV decided against activating after an underwhelming loan spell.
There is hope for Malacia to leave Manchester United if the player does not see himself being reintegrated back into the team.
With the arrival with Senne Lammens as well as the newfound faith in Altay Bayindir, Andre Onana may have to consider his options should he wish to get any game time this season as it looks like the Cameroonian goalkeeper has been relegated to 3rd or even 4th choice goalkeeper after his disaster performance against Grimsby Town.
There is the possibility that Onana could be on Galatasaray’s radar after the club missed out on signing Ederson from Man City as well as earlier this year there were reports of Saudi clubs being interesting in the 29-year-old goalkeeper that may still have interest.
Tottenham Hotspur
Thomas Frank arrived this season as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur and he has been off to a pretty mixed start to his life at Tottenham.
Losing the UEFA Super Cup final to Paris Saint Germain, followed by a blistering start to the season winning their opening 2 games (against Burnley and Manchester City) and then followed by losing their last game to AFC Bournemouth before the international break.
All while dealing with an injury crisis where Spurs seem to be low on options and yet quite surprisingly one of their options is not injured but rather being left of the squad.
Yves Bissouma seems to be out of favour under the new manager and things do not look likely that they will improve so the 29-year-old may have to consider his options these next couple of weeks.
Having seemingly been replaced by Joao Palhinha, the Mali international may options already opened as Galatasaray are reported to be keen on the player.
