2026 has been quite the year already for the world of football as over the past few months, quite a number top names in Europe have announced their imminent departures from their respective teams at the end of this current season. Here is a breakdown of some of the confirmed list of departures so far this season:
Casemiro
The news that dropped early as January of this year, Manchester United’s Brazilian midfielder was announced to be leaving United at the end of the season when his contract expires after 4 years long years at the club. There is still an option in Casemiro’s contract to extend his stay at the club by 1 more year however both the club and the player have formally agreed to part ways at the end of this campaign despite the Brazilian’s top goal scoring form this season.
Mohamed Salah
One of the more recent and out of nowhere announcements was Mo Salah releasing a farewell video on his social media platforms. Announcing that despite his contract only expiring in 2027, the Egyptian winger will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season as both the club and the player have mutually agreed to terminate his contract at the end of the season. Mohamed Salah’s roller-coaster relationship with manager, Arne Slot, was well documented this season so it really should come as no surprise that Salah’s departure has become the end result from this turbulent season for Liverpool.
Andy Robertson
Not too long after Mohamed Salah announced his future departure ,another player who had been at Liverpool for as long as the Egyptian has, also announced their future departure from the club at the end of the season. Andy Robertson, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, is set to leave Liverpool after 9 successful years at the club. The Scottish fullback could not be moving very far however as he has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur should the Lilywhites retain their Premier League status at the end of this season.
Kieran Trippier
Just a little over 4 years on from his arrival from Atlético Madrid, Kieran Trippier announced he will be leaving Newcastle United at the end of the season when his contract expires. The English fullback has been an important part of Newcastle United and manager Eddie Howe’s recent success of returning to UEFA Champions League football as well as ending their top flight trophy draught. However now the 35-year-old defender is set to take on a new challenge elsewhere as Newcastle look to rebuild their squad in the summer following their underwhelming 2025/2026 campaign.
Marcos Senesi
One of the top centre backs in the Premier League currently, Marcos Senesi is a player whose name is on the list of many top clubs in Europe which is maybe why the Argentinian defender has opted to not sign a new contract with AFC Bournemouth. The 28-year-old is set to leave The Cherries at the end of the season and is expected to make big move to a top club with the likes of Juventus and FC Barcelona as well as other Premier League clubs showing interest.
Bernando Silva
A decision that was teased many times over through the years however this time it is official, Bernando Silva will officially leave Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires. Silva arrived at the club in 2017 and since then has experienced an incredible career which saw him play a vital role in Manchester City’s success over the past 9 years. The Portuguese midfielder has most recently released his thank you message to the Man City fans and will be evaluating his options for the future as he also looks to help Man City capture another unexpected domestic treble.
Leon Goretzka
Another player who in recent times has been continuously linked with exit rumours for quite some time now is finally making those rumours a reality. Leon Goretzka, who has been at Bayern Munich since 2018, will be leaving the German Giants at the end of the season as his contract is set to expire in June 2026. After years of success and being an irreplaceable part of the team, the 31-year-old German midfielder will be moving on from the Bayern Munich and maybe leaving on the highest of highs as Bayern Munich have recently qualified for the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Champions League and aim to once again win it.
Raphaël Guerreiro
Just like his teammate Leon Goretzka, Raphaël Guerreiro has also confirmed that he will be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract in June 2026. The Portuguese fullback has not been at the club for very long as he only joined The German Giants in 2023 however that does not take away the fact that Bayern Munich are saying goodbye to a key player who is ready to take on a new chapter in his career that may see him play outside of the Bundesliga since the 32-year-old fullback has spent a large portion of his career in Germany.
Antoine Griezmann
The French forward Antoine Griezmann is the only confirmed player departing their club who has already officially confirmed where they will be playing their football next season. It was confirmed in March of this year that Griezmann will be joining Orlando City in the MLS at the end of this season. Antoine Griezmann, who has had a stellar career in Europe, is looking to end that chapter this season and it could end it on a successful note with Atlético Madrid qualifying for the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Champions League as well as qualifying for the finals of the Copa Del Rey competition. It is looking very likely that Griezmann will be leaving Europe for America with some silverware on his way out.
