After 10 long years the 33-year-old South Korean forward Son Heung-Min will leaving Tottenham Hotspur and will be playing in the North American football league, Major League Soccer by joining Los Angeles FC. The soon to be former Tottenham player made the tearful announcement during a press conference before Tottenham’s pre-season tour game in South Korea. This announcement was heartbreaking for many Spurs fans not just the player but also his teammates. During the game against Newcastle United, Son was set to be substituted off and every Spurs player along with some Newcastle United players all came together to hug and applaud Son on his final game as a Tottenham Hotspur player.
Son Heung-Min joined Tottenham Hotspur on August 28, 2015, making a £22m move from German club Bayer Leverkusen to the English Premier League. Son was a young 23-years-old when he joined Tottenham and then spend the next 10 years growing into a world class player that some might consider a Premier League legend but to most he is a Tottenham Hotspur legend. 454 appearances, 173 goals and 101 assists in all competitions for Tottenham by the South Korean international and for many in the Premier League Son will be remembered for his partnership Harry Kane where the duo managed a record-breaking 37 Premier League combination goals. Others might remember Son for his solo run goal against Burnley during the 2019/20 season which won Son the Premier League Goal of the Season award.
Being called a “legend” was not something Son felt he was ready to be called just yet because during his long tenure with the club he had never won a trophy, that was until the end of the 2024/25 season where Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United in a 1-0 victory in the UEFA Europa League Final. With Son Heung-Min as the captain, lifted Tottenham’s trophy since 2008 and their first European trophy since 1984 and during the post-match interview Son Heung-Min finally said that can consider himself a legend. If you wanted to make a case for Son being a legend for not just Tottenham but for the Premier League, Son Heung-Min is the first Asian player to reach 100 Premier League and the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot. And now after 10 long years Son Heung-Min is about to embark on a new challenge playing in the MLS and leaving Tottenham for a reported amount of around €15m.
